In 1997 the book ‘Stemmen uit het Verleden’ by authors Sidney M. Joubert & Gerard van Buurt was published. It has not been available anymore in the last couple of years. Now thanks to author Van Buurt the book has been scanned and made available online to download.

In 2014 biologist Gerard van Buurt published this much coveted book on Curaçao. In it two (2) articles which were published previously by FPI (Fundashon Planifikashon di Idioma) and UNA (then University of the Netherlands Antilles) are reissued with many illustrations and with two maps added. The list of references for each article has been combined into one listing. The 2009 article on the Caquetío Indians has been revised somewhat, there are some additions; it is thus not identical to the previous version. The 2012 article also has some new entries and additional information was added to some of the entries.

The former Museum of Natural History Curaçao designed a total of 3 educational posters for schools in 2019-2020 about the wildlife of the island. These digital posters were designed as PDF documents in A3 formats that could be downloaded and printed for uses in educational settings. These 3 posters are now also available for download on the Caribbean Footprint website.

Publication: Field observations on some Curaçao land snails, and new records for its fauna – 2014

Currently 31 species of terrestrial snails are known from Curaçao, 28 of these are indigenous. The taxonomy of Curaçao land snails has been studied quite well. An inventory of species and subspecies exists. About their ecology however much less is known. The influence of salt spray from the sea on the distribution of some species is discussed. By observing snails in the field some conclusions about their ecology have been reached; these and some further assumptions are hereby presented.

New natural history book ABC-islands (In Dutch) published!

We were proud and happy to receive our new nature book in the series ‘Know your fauna’ at Drukkerij Rad Dordrecht in the Netherlands last Friday May 2nd. It is now available in Netherlands and later in the year on the ABC-islands!
