The plant known scientifically as Ceratosanthes palmata occurs on all three ABC-islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao and has many local names for each specific island. On Aruba it is called Nebuha, and on the other two islands names such as Batata di djuku, Batata di kachó, Plantasia, Lenga di chuchubi and Batata di zumbi are used, all though the name Batata di djuku is the most used.
Ceratosanthes palmata is a native plant to the islands and also a plant most people tend to overlook. It occurs in many South American countries and also the ABC-islands. It is a climbing plant that has white flowers with cute curled petals that look particularly beautiful in the early morning. The plants are dioecious and the flowers are monosexual which means that there are both male plants with male flowers and separate female plants with female flowers. The flowers are about 1,5 centimetres in diameter and are often visited by ants, beetles and other small insects. Depending on the location of the flowers they can be visited by hummingbirds, especially the ones hanging a little higher and not close to the ground.

Wilde bloemen: Ceratosanthes palmata
De plant die wetenschappelijk bekend staat als Ceratosanthes palmata komt voor op alle drie de ABC-eilanden: Aruba, Bonaire en Curaçao en heeft veel lokale namen voor elk eiland. Op Aruba heet hij Nebuha, en op de andere twee eilanden worden namen gebruikt zoals Batata di djuku, Batata di kachó, Plantasia, Lenga di chuchubi en Batata di zumbi, hoewel de naam Batata di djuku het meest gebruikt wordt.
Ceratosanthes palmata is een inheemse plant van de eilanden en ook een plant die de meeste mensen over het hoofd zien. Het komt voor in veel Zuid-Amerikaanse landen en ook op de ABC-eilanden. Het is een klimplant met witte bloemen met schattige gekrulde bloemblaadjes die er vooral ’s ochtends prachtig uitzien. De planten zijn tweehuizig en de bloemen zijn monoseksueel, wat betekent dat er zowel mannelijke planten met mannelijke bloemen als aparte vrouwelijke planten met vrouwelijke bloemen zijn. De bloemen zijn ongeveer 1,5 centimeter in doorsnee en worden vaak bezocht door mieren, kevers en andere kleine insecten. Afhankelijk van de locatie van de bloemen kunnen ze ook bezocht worden door kolibries, vooral de exemplaren die wat hoger hangen en niet te dicht bij de grond.
