Every year on October 10, the island of Curaçao celebrates the fact that the country became an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10 2010. As many discuss if there is something to celebrate, we do grab this date to re-focus on the regrowth of our roots, and pride for what the little rock in the ocean has to offer in the form of biodiversity and landscapes.
Like the endemic species of Brown-throated parakeet unique for the island of Curaçao, also called the Eupsittula pertinax pertinax, locally named Prikichi!
Happy Curaçao Day, may we all learn to love and appreciate the natural wonders of the island to its full extent, and help it survive!
